The Iron Grandmother

Orna Ben-Ami dreams of making the world a better place for her grandchildren through her art. This short documentary profiles the artist and her latest exhibition, "Entire Life in a Package" and was featured on :60 Second Docs.

This film was made four years ago, before the current conflict. I feel it’s important to note that Orna is and has always been someone looking to build meaningful peace with her neighbors. At the time, Trump was in office as he will be once more, and I found myself commiserating with my crew who felt the same way about Netanyahu as I did about our President. In this moment, where it feels as if we’re meant to choose sides as if they were sports teams, I hope the takeaway from this short film is the reminder that people are not their governments.

Palestinian and Israeli safety are deeply intertwined and there is no turning back time.

The path forward depends on those committed to empathy and a desire to honor the human experience - something Orna has always done and continues to do.
