Girl Boxer: A NYTimes OpDoc
Jesselyn “JessZilla” Silva is serious about boxing, and at 10 years old trains seriously with dreams of becoming a professional fighter. Her father, Pedro, finds himself caught in between supporting her dream and worrying about her future in boxing.
The short film premiered on the New York Times website as a part of OpDocs Season 6, which also was featured as a Vimeo Staff Pick. Since its premiere, the director's cut of the film has played at numerous festivals across the United States and abroad.
Girl Boxer earned the Ruth Landfield Award Honorable Mention and Best Documentary Short at Fargo Film Festival in 2018.
